i cant stand headphones/sets or just wearing anything on my head period. it distracts me from gaming or watching movies and is just uncomfortable. right now im getting audio from an hdmi cable out of my tv speakers (which i use as my monitor, for now) so is that just about the best i can do without a headset or would seperate speakers be better?

if you want the best audio... you need speakers.

what you buy depends on budget.

if you have $300-400+ (or an existing home theater system set up already) i'd go with home theater speakers. this is what some of us with more media oriented setups use (look at the link in my sig).

if you have under $300 perhaps look at the logitech z506 5.1 or small amp and 2.0 bookshelf speakers.

if you have under $200 perhaps the other logitech 5.1 or a high quality 2.1 or small amp and 2.0 bookshelf speakers.

if you have under $100 perhaps the 2.1 logitech or small amp and 2.0 satelite speakers.

if you have absolutely zero space for speakers, perhaps a soundbar attached to your pc.

about the klipsch promedia 2.1..... i had them for a few days...
the cheapest way is if your system has a digital audio out port or your receiver does or has hdmi input. use your stereo for the computer output. if not walk into a store liek micro center or one that has speakers set up. there few good 5.1 kits out there with subs.

If you want better audio, then yes, buy good speakers. Don't know of any inexpensive, but good speakers. I am still using the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers I bought back in 2007 which were about $150. It's great for music.

You should simply look at speakers in your price and read reviews for them. You can also go to Bestbuy as well to demo the speakers they have on display.

about the klipsch promedia 2.1..... i had them for a few days and they really arent all that great. while sound quality isnt bad at all the speakers are far too weak to be paired with that huge subwoofer. even on low the subwoofer completely overpowers the mids and highs ruining the experience. build quality was impressive but for $150 you can do better on sound quality. i ended up moving up to some klipsch home theater speakers instead (equipment listed in mybuild if you hover over my avatar) and they have been great.

just a few options....
