How can I hook up 2 DVD players in the same tower?

I have installed a 2nd CD/DVD player in my home computer. I hooked up a multi pin cable that also hooked to the original player and ran the sata cable to a random plug. Yep you guessed it the darn thing won't work. I place a CD in and close the tray, the light comes on for a bit then nothing. Please be patient with me I am a computer knob. Thanks
