How can I make my computer quietier?

Hey guys.

Basic question, but would like a decent answer.

But basically, my computer is ridiculously loud at the moment. I can hear it downstairs when I'm walking up and it's just extremely prominent.

Do you have any tips for the noise that it's giving out?

I'm looking to build a computer from scratch too so maybe your answers would help that too.

Solution
1. remove fans
2. order pizza

Really there are some things you can do (unless it's one of those weird super proprietary setups like an HP workstation or office computer).

Change cases if your case has a lot of open ventilation holes. Change it to something like a Fractal Define series. What I said about proprietary applies here.

You could get some fan cable extensions to lower the speed of your case fans, or a speed controller.

If your running a stock heatsink fan that came with your CPU, ditch it because they are either loud, the noise itself is at a frequency...
Look for quality components with quiet cooling fans. If noise is a concern, look for GPUs and PSUs with low-noise fans. Seasonic makes excellent PSUs with low-noise fans and some have hybrid fans which do not spin when load is within a certain limit. Also look into getting bigger case fans if your case can support them. The bigger the fans, the quieter they will be. Also, how are your temps?

My temps are actually really decent. But I'm not 100% on what's actually creating the noice. I have a stock cooler for my AMD FX8350 so maybe this? I'm really confused.

And I have like a really old cooler master case that can only fit 3 small fans.

Get something with a physically larger fan because you can spin it slower, lowering the percieved loudness and pitch of the fan noise; this also works for case fans, so go bigger if you can fit em.

Ditch that CPU cooler first, those things suck ! That alone will make a huge difference. My stepson has the stock AMD cooler and it sounds like a dam dremel.

If it's still bad upgrade your case with a case that takes 120 or better yet 140mm fans !
