how can I make this gamepad work with Vice City?

I have a saitek P3000 wireless pad USB. How can I make it work with this game? I went in "redifine controls" and clicked on one under "car", clicked on my buttons on my game pad, nothing happen. Does anyone know why nothing happens?

try adding the device to windows as a standard joystick. vice city is very particular about its devices it will support. i couldnt get it to run my wheel and pedals. just my joystick.

just go into control pannel/game controlers. add a device, just scroll through the list till you find a description that matches your game pad best. then add it. very simple
