my motherboard is an Asus P5E-VM HDMI, i just wanna know how can i overclock my processor to run at like 3ghz like others do, do i have to change the voltage? and if i do what is the stock voltage for this processor and what should i change it to? im new to this overclocking business
 
First of all your motherboard is a mATX model designed for HTPC use and I think it's likely that the overclocking options available in the BIOS are somewhat limited. Secondly the E6300 never was a very good overclocking chip, I used to have one and the highest I ever got mine was around 2.5GHz. The components you have will determine your maximum overclock, not all components are created equal and not all components are capable of achieving the same speeds.

Mine E6300 works with no problems @ 2.8Ghz with 1.3 Vcore.
I could go up to 3.395 Ghz with 1.4Vcore, but the CPU got kinda hot with the stock cooler. Maybe with a better cooler. 😉
I think you had a bad chip.

 


I agree that I had a bad chip but the other components in the system such as motherboard, RAM, PSU all play a role in the overclockability of a chip as well.
