Things that I have tried...

Power settings -> USB Selective Suspend -> putting it from Enabled to Disabled.

BIOS USB 2.0 on Full Speed or HiSpeed? Which stresses the card / generates heat more?

Can i just put a fan right near it (ghetto) to prevent it from overheating?

Make and model wireless USB adapter?

I use an USB extension cable to raise my wireless USB adapter (Linksys WUSB6300) ) up and away from the back of the host desktop computer. Raised up about 6 feet (2 meters) from the floor.

Keeps the adapter cooler and always helps with transmission/reception.

For the most I consider those adapters to generally be low quality with a designed in EOL (End of Life).

Once the adapter starts getting very warm or even hot I know it is going to fail.
