how can i recover files that have been partially overwritten?

I found my old external hard drive downloaded recuva and found out an old recording video had partially been overwritten. how can i get the recorded video back?

If the data has been overwritten, you can recover what isn't there. I mean, you can likely recover the broken video file but you obviously can't get back the parts of the file that have been overwritten. If you recover the broken file, there *may* be a media player that will play through those broken parts as dead space but it's not likely.
