How can i recover my data from my hp simplesave 1TB which locks up my pc when pl

When I plug in my HP simplesave 1TB in locks up my pc. Is there any way i can recover my data?

well first try it in a diffrent pc or laptop if same result then time to whip out a screw driver and pull the actual drive out. Stick this drive in you PC if it works you can just leave it in there if you want or copy the data off. If it does not work most likely you are out of luck.

There is a chip screwed on top of the hd (I believe it acts as the software for a cd drive), I can just take that off and then plug in my hd, right?
