Despite saying that my computer can run this game, it lags even on low setting. I know i have integrated graphics but it should still be enough. I have an intel i3 4012Y 1.5 ghz cpu with intel hd 4200 graphics. I have 4gb of ram. I have windows 8.1 64bit. Can someone help me?

If you have a legit copy of the game that is up to date it is already using both cores. The game is multithreaded.

You can try stuff from here.

If that doesn't work keep googling and see what you can find. I think it's your setup more than anything though. The core bug caused crashes not slowdowns.

which drivers? i just updated the graphics driver. should i update any others?

Your computer is simply not powerful enough. Even though you might meet the bare minimum specs minimum specs are just that, the minimum required to run. No game ever ran smoothly with minimum specs. Fallout 3 came out at the end of 2008 and was a pretty demanding game at the time. I either had an 8800 GTS 320 or a 9800GTX+ when it was released and I don't think I could max it then.

System requirements for the game.

How would I go about doing that?

Yea perfectly smooth is unlikely but I think he will still be able too. The first time I ever got to play it I was using a single-core 2Ghz Sempron CPU on an old Socket 754 motherboard, and using an Nvidia GT 6600. It ran at like 10FPS but well it ran lol.

Anyways if he sets it to dual-core I think he might manage medium settings with all the AA stuff off.

Fallout 3 also has issues with Windows 7 and I'm not sure if 8 fixed that or not. Also I think later patches used 2 cores. The game would not run well on a quad core system though and there are fixes for that.

I already did a fix where i can use windows 8 and intel hd on an old game like this. my question is how do i change it to run on two cores. What setting is it on the .ini

That is all very true and might cause issues. It is very buggy on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

For the Dual-core they never had a patch for it.

That says how to make the change.
