How can i sort a WDS to TP link router

Hi,

My knowledge of networking and all things IT is very poor! I have a holiday home in ireland and am trying to set up a security camera.I have a Huawei E5331 modem (supplied by 3 ireland) works just fine for general internet. I bought a TP link TL-MR3420 router. The camera is attached to the router with cable. My problem is that the E5331 will not bridge with the router. I have checked with Huawei - no help at all. Can you suggest a modem that would work. My sim card is in the modem and i am part of the national broadband scheme. I hope this makes sense and i can get this sorted. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I thought this was the standard why does WDS not work between vendors question. But you have 2 wireless broadband devices which make it much more complex.

You might be able to run the tplink as a dumb wireless bridge to the Huawei but that is such a waste of a nice router. It will be much easier to just but a cheap wireless client bridge.

From what it sounds like you want the Huawei to act as a modem to your router. The only hope you have is that you can hook the Huawei to the tplink via USB and the TP-link has support for that device as well as the ISP. Normally the USB port on the tplink is used to hook up dongle but even there not all are supported. You need to first ensure you have the very latest firmware on your tplink then go though the list of supported devices to see if the huawei and you ISP are on the list.

Sorry back again on this! I bought a Huawei E3256 which is compatible with the MR3420. Internet in the house works great. However, when i try to get to the router remotely to view my camera i can't get through. Apparently both the router and dongle are assigning IP addresses. Have contacted both TP-link and Huawei - no joy. My friend says that i need to turn off DHCP on the modem, however, this does not seem possible. I have now been trying to sort this for 6 months. Any help would be great.

Lets hope it is just those 2 assigning IP addresses.

If they are both assigning addresses what you want to do is go into the Huawei DMZ settings page and put your TP-link WAN address in. Then in the TP-link you would use the DMZ or port forwarding to map to the lan ip of the camera.

The issue I have seen at least in the US is the wireless broadband provides do not give you a IP address you share it with others and they use 10.x.x.x addresses for the device. This means the port forwarding and DMZ options are out of your control. Verizon for more money will give you a fixed real ip address but ATT will not for any price.

Hi, still at this. I have a problem trying to view cctv cameras remotely. My set up is now modem Huawei E5151; router TP-Link MR3420, Jovision NVR. I think the router and modem are not compatible. My supplier is 3 ireland. This should be simple as i am viewing using cloudsee. How can i work out which router or modem to buy to make this work. Sorry for such a basic question, i have searched the net without being able to sort this.

Its pretty easy to see if you actually have control of the IP. Go to something like whatsmyip and see if it matches the IP your router thinks it has. You of course will have the 192.168 addresses on you equipment in your house but I suspect the router WAN address and the whatsmyip address are different. This is very common for mobile broadband.

In general if you can surf the web your modem and router are compatible. The issue I suspect you have is a NAT the ISP is in control of. This makes it very hard to remotely access stuff in your house because you are sharing a IP with multiple people.

I am unfamiliar with that software but it appears to be a pretty standard meetme solution for connecting stuff together. It would have to be compatible with your software. It is pretty easy to test if that type of application will work. Something like teamviewer is a very simple desktop sharing app that works in most every situation. It does not do what you need for cameras but it will let you know if you can use a app that work similar.
