How can I stop my ATR-2500 from picking up light taps on my desk?

When I have the microphone on the stand it came with on my desk and I very lightly tap the desk, it makes a very bass heavy sound that sounds like I hit the mic. It also has the same effect when I type (they are like light peaks of bass) I was hoping that someone who has had this problem before could help me.

I have also tried putting it on some foam however it seems that it isn't changing anything, it is about 3 inches think and hard foam.

Any way to desensitize the mike?

As far as I can see the only setting in Windows Sound is to change the Volume which doesn't make a difference in the tapping but only makes things quieter.

Not sure if there would be a way to have a live digital equalizer?
