How can I store dvds to a external hard drive

I would like to send my husband some movies over seas on a external hard drive, I can not seem to save the movies to the external hard.
Please help!

If these are DVD Videos you have to rip and convert them. There are several programs who can do this.
But for ripping commercial DVDs these programs most likely have to cirumvent the copy protection which may be illegal in your country.

ok, I bought smartsoft dvd creator and Intertech dvd converter pro,
will this help or have just wasted my money?
