How can I tell if a CPU cooler can connect to a motherboard?

I am building a computer and need a cpu cooler. I am getting the Asus B85M-G as a motherboard, could you recommend a CPU cooler. And also is there a default measurement that goes with Cooler? thanks,

There are two things to be concerned about with coolers, height and RAM clearance. Height is dependent on the case rather than the motherboard. RAM clearance is partially about the cooler and partially about the RAM choice.
