How can I tell if my PS4 motherboard is fried?

Every time I run a game on my PS4 a notice comes up saying the system is overheated, then it shuts off. Is it possible that this is due to my motherboard being fried? When I'm in the menu it doesn't seem to shut off, but only when I go into a game.

Err, sounds like it's overheating. My fat classic PS3 has this same problem, you can "cure it" by elevating the PS4 off the surface it's on by like 1 inch with a couple of thick books or wooden blocks, and you may need to point a fan at it to blow air there so the heat from the bottom can dissipate, you MAY even have to resort to pointing an air conditioner at it to get cool enough air.

If it was fried, it wouldn't start at all. If it's still under warranty contact sony and see if they'll replace it.

sorry I downvoted you by accident. I took the ps to a store and they said it was due to the motherboard, however I'm not sure if i should trust them. I've already tried getting it to ventilate and the problem was still there. I'm going to wait and see what others think, otherwise I'll check at another repair store.
