okay so im getting parts for a build, so included some cables to go with - i chose a hdmi to dvi cable for the video transfering but what do i need exactly to transfer audio please help!

Solution
If you are trying to send the audio though to the TV the best way would be HDMI to HDMI. Most cards do not send audio though the DVI port. I know there were a few at one them that did but I think they are extinct now. Does your GPU/motherboard not have HDMI out?

alright but when i first boot up my pc would it still send the signal though the pc?

If you are only using HDMI the yes it should. At least all of the GPU's I have used had no problem with HDMI being the only video out. I had full video out for the POST and BIOS and such no problem. For audio to be sent though the HDMI you would need to right click on the speaker icon in the task bar and select Playback Devices. From there you will need to find the correct HDMI out option and select that as default. After that you should have HDMI audio out to the TV.
