how can i uncompress mouhid.sys listed in blue

I have a PC that had Windows 8 installed and then when I upgraded to 8.1 I installed it on a new hd. it shows both 8 and 8.1 as choices at boot up. Everything has been going fine until today when I find that when the boot reaches the 8.1 splash screen (just prior to login) there is no mouse or keyboard response. If I login to Windows 8 I can see that on the other hd in system32\drivers folder a number of files including mouhid.sys and kybdhid.sys are shown in blue which I think means they are compressed.

How can I uncompress them since I can only work from Windows 8 on the different hd.

to be clearer :-
boot into Windows 8
hd 1 has Windows 8 installation and old data
hd 0 has windows 8.1 installation with current data but mouhid.sys ect are compressed.

Strange situation to end up in!
A suggestion that might help...
First ensure you have a Recovery or Installation Media to hand.
Try Windows key plus R and type msconfig then enter
What do you see on the Boot tab? Probably two entries, one for Windows 8 and another for Windows 8.1
Note down the path to windows 8 in case you need to re-instate it.
Remove the entry for Windows 8 and Restart your machine. If the keyboard/mouse are still unresponsive, reboot from your Recovery/installation drive and use Troubleshoot then Advanced Options to run SFC from CMD prompt to see if the problem can be fixed (sfc /scannow) then enter

Thanks for responding. I checked again and I have windows7 on one hd and Windows 8 and 8.1 on the other hd - sorry to have been confused. Present state is that when I boot and reach the choice of os screen I have active keyboard and mouse. If I choose Windows 8 it continues as it should and I can use the pc as normal. If however at the os choice screen I choose Windows 8.1 then when I reach the screen before login (sort of rainbow display) I have no mouse and keyboard and so cannot continue to login etc.

If I look at the system32/drivers folder for the 8.1 installation lots of the files are in blue but I dont know whether this would affect the availibilty of mouse and keyboard.

I have been using 8.1 for some time now and desperately need to be using it again. I am wondering what happens when a choice of os is made - does windows then reload mouse and keyboard drivers?

I did upgrade to 8.1 from the store so I am not sure how the present state came about. Should I delete 8 and if so how and if I do will that cure the problem with 8.1 or will I be left with an inaccesible 8.1 and no 8?
