My HP Pavilion Windows 8.1 Notepad has stopped working and I want to uninstall it. I went to the Start menu and did a right click on the Notepad app but the option to uninstall did not come up. I went to My Computer and clicked on uninstall files but Notepad was not in the list.

How can I uninstall Notepad?

GO TO C:\Windows type n then noteped will be highlighted
press shift+delete it will be gone

but i suggest you to use notepad++ instead of

Notepad is a system file, it will auto generate if you delete it.

If you have a problem with Notepad, I suggest you run an Antivirus program on your system, like Malware Bytes.

Alex,

Notepad now works after running sfc /scannow.

Scannow found other files that are corrupted and cannot be fixed. So far I haven’t found any problems. Should I do a restore? Or let ride at the moment?

Thanks,

Reboot in safemode and try.

Could be looking as a disk issue as well.

Try
chkdsk C:

If it wants repairs, put
chkdsk C: /f

This might take 2 hours, you will need to press Y when prompted and reboot. It will look like it's hanging, but it takes time.

if sfc.exe /scannow reports errors that it can not fix, you will want to run
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
this will go online and get a non corrupted copy of the OS file and fix your local copy.

Note: after you are done, reboot and try the SFC.exe /scannow again

johnbl,

I ran the “dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth” command and re-ran “SFC.exe /scannow”,
This time there were no corrupted files.

Thanks,

If you are getting corrupt files and you have not done anything to cause it, I would check start backing up any files you deem important to the cloud, or to USB. You could be looking at a dying hard drive.
