Question How Can You Have Files Open From An External Hard Drive?

So I want a large program, Steam, to open from my external HD, how do I do that? Does it need to be under program files 86x?

The Steam client is tiny.
The games can be quite large.

Simply designate a folder on the external as a game install location.
Does not have to be called Program Files (x86). Call it whatever you like.

In the steam client:
Steam
Settings
Downloads
Steam Library Folders
Add library folder

Don't, and you can't.
The actual Steam client is SMALL.

You can move already installed games, or have new games install to that other location.

If you moved the actual game files, yes. That's where it now exists.
That external drive must be connected to play that game.

I apologize for this, but I'm planning on using ethernet. I will have it connected through usb on my laptop fans usb will that bottleneck it?

Game performance through the USB connection will probably be slower than on an internal drive.
Try it and see what happens.

What is the speed of the internet connection coming into the house?

I dont know. But my in game ping is 5 if that helps. Wifi is pretty okay. Ill do a speedtest.net

Download 3.5 and upload is 3.9... i thought it was higher.
