for some reason i get major lag when i plug in my monitor to my laptop. It runs fine when the monitor isn't plugged in, but as soon as i plug it in, my internet slows completely. i've got my display options to only show desktop on the monitor, so it's not running on both.

Yeah it's pretty unfortunate. If you found feedback helpful, like it! Thanks :)
What monitor are you using (resolution size, response time, video input) and what laptop are you using (CPU and graphics card)? Does it happen in general, regardless what you're doing?

It's possible that your laptop can't handle your monitor size and screen resolution. And if you're doing some intensive like gaming or movies. And this probably comes down to your graphics card. Laptops just aren't powerful enough.

I have a 23" 1920*1080 (1080p) monitor, and my MacBook Pro 2011 works overtime.

So like mine, your laptop probably isn't powerful to power it.

It is a Toshiba Satellite, 2nd Gen I7, it has an NVidia Geforce GT 630M. The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster P2250 - 21.5" 2ms response. My internet will lag even when opening facebook. yes I game, Wow. it sometimes runs fine for 5-10 minutes, but then i will get enormous lag spikes, unplug the monitor and everything is fine.

Thank you for your response, that may very well be the case
