How compatible is Windows 8.1 with Avira free?

Exactly as the title states; after doing some research online I came to the conclusion that I shouldn't use the build in AV (windows defender) and instead replace it with several other suggest AV's.
Two that caught my attention were Avast! and Avira, and after some time reading up on various articles and opinions I concluded Avira would be better suited for me, since with my online activities I don't really require the extensive features Avast! seems to offer.

That being said, I've read that some users were suffering from problems on W8.1 and besides that I couldn't find much any articles or threads that discussed the compability with Avira and W8.1.
My computer has been ordered so I can't test this out for myself yet, but before I take my chances I was hoping some users here can enlighten me on this topic.

avast isnt that bad but for me I grew apart from it for some reason. I would say you are going for a full paid version?

for me I generally run a paid malwarebytes since it is one of the best programs out there alongside panda cloud av free or something similar depending on if its a laptop etc. laptops I always use panda since its lighter weight than the rest

Nope as the title states I'm thinking of getting a free AV.
I do own a paid license for Malwarebytes Pro however, but I never bothered with it anymore at some points since it felt somewhat unneeded and I'm just looking for an AV that wont ruin my performance.
From my past experience Malwarebytes Pro did slow down my pc a bit, but that was in conjunction with Avast!.

Yes I have experienced the same with mbam and avast thats why I removed avast and used panda, i would give mbam a try with panda and see how you like it, its better to have it and not need it trust me. most free antivirus programs will not block really anything.
