how did scammers know that i was on my ipod touch

i got tired of scammers calling me so i figured i would mess with them on there online chat and the one guy ask if i needed help with my ipod. i found that weaird because i was chatting with him on my ipod. how did he know that it was only online chat. please explain.

There is a lot more data being sent over the internet than just what you type in a chat window. With the right tools and experience (which most hackers/scam artists have), they can easily tell what device you are using.

Never engage with a scammer/hacker unless you're a scammer/hacker yourself. All you did was provide him/her with an active device and probably e-mail address, password, etc...

Change all your passwords now.
