how do i boot an
operating system from cd
on to dell inspiron 2500

Put the CD in your CD drive. Restart the PC. Press the delete key repeatedly on startup, to access the BIOS. Set the CD drive as the first boot device. Press F10 to save and exit the BIOS. When you see the message to 'press any key,' do so at that time.

You can get to the boot menu by hitting F12 when you see the Dell BIOS splash screen. F2 gets you into the BIOS.
