I'm using a HP pavilion with nvidia 940mx. there is no option to disable intel graphics from the BIOS. I disabled the drivers from device manager but now it just says microsoft basic display driver

Re-enable the Intel graphics in Device Manager.

Use the 3D Settings in Nvidia Control Panel to make Nvidia GPU the default for each game or application you select.

Alternatively, right-click a game or app shortcut, then choose Nvidia GPU from the menu which appears.

Reputable
Go to settings > system > display > advanced graphics settings > universal app

and then

Set the graphics preference you want to use:
  • System default — this is always the default setting, and Windows 10 decide which GPU to use automatically.
  • Power saving — runs the application on the GPU that uses the least power, which most of the time is your integrated graphics processor.
  • High performance — runs the application on the most capable GPU, which is most of the time an external or discrete graphics processor.
