How do i change the speed of my fans?

I am going to build my own pc for the very first time and was wondering how to change the fan speed using the bios on my motherboard.

I am going to connect 4 PWM case fans and 1 CPU fan to my MSI Z370-A Pro motherboard.

Also, is it possible to make it so my fans will spin faster or slower depending on the temperature in my build?

Solution

Yes. Do it in BIOS by using graphs/gradient points to set fan speed based on given temp. Consult your manual (Page 38) here: http://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/E7B48v1.0.zip

Note that four out of the six 4-pin fan headers of your motherboard are in, by default, in DC-mode. Make sure to change the fan mode of those four fan headers (SYS_FAN1 to SYS_FAN4) to PWM, since you will be using PWM case...
As long as you connect all fans to the motherboard fan headers, you will be able to adjust each fan speed individually.

What kind of options you have at your disposal depends on the motherboard.
My motherboard allows me to set a custom fan curve for each fan or to adjust the speed automatically depending on the CPU, GPU, or the Chipset temperature.

You can also use software such as SpeedFan to manage your fans.

If you don't switch the header from DC to PWM, the case fans you have will run at full speed.
