i have an antivirus to be installed on my laptop. when the antivirus needs the activation key, i looked on the folder of the antivirus and click on the activation key and then it says that i have no application to open this file. The type of the file is KEY File. i change the default browser to any available on the list (ie. ms word, notepad, etc.) my mistake is by not reading a pop-up window and i think it says that use this as a default program to all KEY FILES. and now i'm having trouble of not changing it back to its default browser.

i have read this one
"go to start-search REGEDIT-click,H key current user-click,software-click,microsoft-click,windows-click,current version-click,explorer-click,file exts -click .lnk-under that, delete the file userchoice-then restart your system"

i did it but theres no userchoice on my .Ink folder. instead i looked on my .Key and deleted the userchoice sub folder. and when i restart my laptop it did not worked. instead the default browser is MS Word. i tried this several times but it end up again to ms word as a default browser.

can anyone help me pls? sorry for my english.

Hey,
u r going on a wrong way.......
u do not need to open the key file at all.
follow the steps below
1. install the antivirus. ( hope you know how to do it)
if it asks for the key, choose the option LATER or TRY IT or EVALUATE or something like that.
2. open the antivirus window ( You can do it by double clicking the icon on the desktop or right clicking the icon in the SYSTEM TRAY.

find out the option like REGISTER/ INSERT LICENCE/ACTIVATE

3. choose insert licence file option, BROWSE and choose this particular licence file from your computer and click OK.

AND YOU ARE DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you can tell me the name of the antivirus and the version number, i can guide u step by...
It is much easyer to go in browser preferences and make sure he has all the defaults.

OR:

On windows 7/8 there is an default programs link in start menu... there choose your default programs - select browser - click option "has all defaults"
On windows xp you will find these options in control panel - uninstall programs - in left side in menu at bottom.

it says that my current default is MS word and i want to change it to unknown application. how can i do that?

Why you bother how it opens that key? To insert it in your antivirus - go in it`s menu and insert license file.
Would help knowing what antivirus is... but since it has an license => it also has support (ask them what to do with that file... sometimes just need to put that key file in same folder with your program)
