[SOLVED] How do I choose a 5v SATA socket for RGB strip?

I bought a Lian Li O11 Dynamic Evo that comes with a built in RGB strip. The manual says to connect it to 5v SATA and NOT 12v SATA. How do I know if my PSU provides 5v on the SATA sockets?

I have looked at the Montech site and general info on sockets and SATA connections and I'm not sure any of it makes sense.

Case documentation:

Case cable:

PSU Montech Century G5 850W
PSU cable (the socket it goes into says SATA/Molex)

Let me ask you this...The Lian Li document says connect to your PSU but I dont have the aRGB connection on my PSU.
Obviously.
Because you find this connector on motherboard (not on PSU).
On my Asus ROG B650E-F mobo the closest I see are 3 sockets labeled as Addressable Gen Headers.
That's where I have connected the bottom part of the case cable.
Yes. That's correct.
they say that you need to connect both cables:
The ones that says "5V Connect to PSU" and the one that says "or Connect to UNI HUB".
The UNI HUB is a Lian Li hub where you can connect various RGB.
PSU connection is necessary for RGB power.

Motherboard connection is necessary for RGB control with software.
This can go to Lian Li Uni Hub also, to be...
SATA connector provides both voltages - 12V and 5V.

Image you're referring to, talks about aRGB (5V) vs RGB (12V) connector.

OK wow I didn't know about the aRGB vs RGB connection standard.

You can use one or other control mechanism.

thanks for all this fascinating information. Its been about 14 years since my last build so a lot of this tech is new to me.

So here is where I am with this...I have the cable that says "or Connect to UNI HUB" connected to the mobo at one of three Addressable Gen 2 header sockets. The RGB strip on the case will not light up. Based on what I've read on reddit and your direction, I am to also to connect the cable labeled "5V Connect to PSU" to one of the other Addressable Gen 2 header sockets on the mobo.

So to do this I would need a SATA-to-aRGB cable. I looked in the case box as well as the mobo box and do not see this accessory. I checked my stash and nope all I see is IDE cables and molex :). So my next task is to purchase one of these cables on the internets.

As a side note, I find it hard to believe the Lian Li would make the RGB a SATA connector but not provide you the proper cable to connect to the mobo and mistakenly label "PSU" instead of "5V Power Source" or whatever.

There is no SATA-to-aRGB cable or adapter. SATA is exclusively power connector coming from PSU it provide power to disks or anything that needs 5vDC. and 12vDC. What you probably have or should have come with the case is an RGB or ARGB controller that needs power to operate so you have to plug in one SATA power led to it. Then you have to connect any LED strips or fans to it depending if ARGB or RGB. To be able to control lights from software, there has to be a connection from that controller to motherboard which can be RGB. ARGB or USB cable/connector.

I talked to Lian Li and they would not admit there was an error in documentation much less that it was misleading. Anyways, based on their direction I connected the secondary cable to the SATA socket on the PSU. All seems to work well. The RGB strip has been on for 30 minutes and no apparent heat is felt from it.
