Are those clips normal?
do I need anything special to attach a case fan?

Yeah, you should be able to slide the fan from the top. What is the make and model of your chassis?

Those plastic clips on the side will hold the fan in place. Just place the fan in between them and line the screw holes to the 4 pins and it should click when it locks in place.

I'm not sure. I didn't build this one.
I'll check tomorrow.
