my wireless router is downstairs. I am trying to connect to the wifi from upstairs. my laptop picks up the wifi because of its wifi range boost capability however no other devices can pick it up... I have a second wireless router not connected anywhere I though maybe (while connected to the wifi with my laptop) I could connect the second router to my laptop so that I can use the second outer as a hardline and basically have my laptop as a relay. is this possible and how do I accomplish this?

It would be best to use the second router configured as an access point with a cable connection to the main router, if a cable is not possible next best would be to connect it to the main router with a pair of Zyxel PLA5205kit powerline adapters (they are expensive but work far better than others).

If you run Windows 7 you can usually create a virtual wifi miniport that will allow your computer wireless adapter to connect to your network and also act as an access point like THIS.
