how do i connect headphones to my computer

my speakers are built into the monitor so i can't plug them out and then plug my headphones in how do i make the sounds go into the headphones instead of the speakers
 
Solution
You need an auxiliary split cable like this:

Then you need a male - male auxilary cable like this (should come with your monitor) :

Plug the splitter into your monitor, plug the auxiliary cable into one end, then plug the other into the headphone jack on your PC, then plug your headphones into the other end of the AUX splitter. Problem solved.
Once your headphones are plugged in, right click on the volume/speakers icon in the bottom right hand of your computer screen on the taskbar. Click on 'playback devices' and you should see all devices that are available to play your sound from. Select the one which corresponds to your headphones (you might just have to cycle through them all until you find it) and set it as default. If the sound still comes out of your monitor speakers right click on them in the menu and press 'disable'. You can re-enable them later if needed by right clicking (this time not on a particular playback device) and clicking on 'show disabled devices', the right clicking on it and selecting 'enable'.
