How do i connect my graphics card? No 8 pin connector

I bought a geforce 295 and it says i have to connect it with a 6 pin and an 8 pin connector. My power supply only has a 6 in connector, i dont have an 8 pin. Is there an adapter or something i need to buy?

First thing you should do is tell us what power supply you have.

Its just some cheap ATX one which worked fine on my GEforce 8800 GTS, I never knew the geforce 295 needed a 6 pin and an 8 pin

Get a Pc Power n Cooling. I've got a 750W one and it comes with 2x6 pin AND 2x8 pin pcie power connectors. That should fit what you need.

I dont want to buy another power supply. Is there an adapter or something i can use with my existing power supply? I have 2 free 4 pin slots. Do i need a 4 pin to 8 pin PCI express cable?

What kind of connectors do you have on your current PSU and what is its power rating? A 6 to 8 pin adapter should be ok. But if it doesn't even have 6 pin adapters then it's outdated. A great video card deserves a powerful power supply or you'll have stability issues. You've got at least 2x6 pin adapters right?

@ Bidybag: I would strongly advise against that, those lines are not designed to handle the kind of power a 8pin PCI-E connector can supply and the GTX295 will draw.
Can you give us the specs of the PSU? Particularly the Amps on the +12 volt output/s.

Doesn't sound like you even have the 2x 6-pin's needed to combine into a single 8 pin. You are going to need a new PSU, as most cards require either 6+8, or 6+6 these days...

Its only 450 watt. It only has one 6 pin. I really dont know the other specs.

I cant even find a power supply that has the cables i need. They all come with an 8pin motherboard cables, and i need a pci express 8 pin cable. Could somebody link me to some power supplies that has what i need please?

I see power supplies with 2 X 6 pin, but it says i need a 6 pin and 8 pin PCI cables, it says not to use the motherboard 8 pin or it may damage it.

My broken Corsair 620 HX module PSU doesnt even have the cable i need. I thought this was a top power supply. If this doesnt have it, what will?

Is there another Corsair one that has it?

crosair 620HX will be a bit low (kinda still risky) above 620HX will do fine

My point isnt the power, my point is that it doesnt have the correct cables. I can only assume the ones above it will not either.

Here is what it says the Corsair 620 HX comes with:
"Output Connector(s) Power 4 pin ATX12V connector, 15 pin Serial ATA power, power 24 pin main output, power 8 pin +12V, 6 pin PCI Express power"

Nothing about an 8 pin PCI express power cable.


I then looked at another Corsair one, the 650 TX:
" 4 PIN internal power, 15 pin Serial ATA power, power 24 pin ATX with detachable 4 pin section, 8 pin PCI Express power, power 8 pin EPS12V with detachable 4 pin ATX12V section"

This one doesnt say it has the 6 pin but it has the 8 pin i need.

Both those units support both 4 and 8 pin CPU lines as well as 20 and 24 pin motherboard lines.
Check the photos and specs.

I already have the Corsair 620 HX . It just broken and i am waiting for Corsair to send me a new one. My corsair RAM also broken. Corsair are so good.

i have a same problem with my video card(6970hd) it takes two power supply connectors 6 pin(its there and connected 75w) and 8pin 150w, the problem is the 8 pin is already connected to the moterboard and there isnt spare one left i have molex conector's, sata power suply ones and 4 pin one left now, i can get 4pin to 8pin adapter cable, but will that make that 150w and grafics card will work at its full potencial?
p.s power supply is 850w and cpu is over clocked i7 2600k
