I'm running a geforce gtx 980 ti in my corsair carbide series 200r and it stays fairly cool but when I run Witcher 3 it gets really hot and bumps up to about 80 celsius. I when picked up 2 extra fans and put an exhaust fan in the top of the case. I wanted to put my other fan below the gpu to get it nice and cool but I don't think there's anywhere to put it. Does any one have any advice? Is it supposed to be this hot? Cause when I feel it it feels very hot.

I'm pretty sure the maxwell cards (960, 970, 980, 980 Ti, Titan X) are all rated to function up to 92 C, where they shut off. 80C is perfectly normal for a reference card.
It is hot. Witcher 3 is very demanding. And that is one massive chip driving that card.

Download MSI Afterburner, and that will give you the option to speed up the fans on the video card. I'm going to leave it up to you to decide if that is something you want to do. At the very least, read up on the feature before using it. I cannot be responsible if you set things wrong.

The fans are on auto but how would I create a custom curve? And I am currently using the stock cooler but I bought the hyper 212 evo so should that make a difference regarding the gpu temperature?

No, the CPU wouldn't affect the GPU. What do you mean by stock? Does is have one fan at the end(blower) or multiple fans?? What brand/ can you take a picture.

As said above, MSI Afterburner is a free universal tool that will let you make a custom curve.

It's the intel stock cooler which came with the i7 4790k cpu but im now going to install another exhaust fan on the top of the case. I downloaded the MSI afterburner but I don't really know how to work it. And the gpu is the normal nvidia design so it has a crappy cooler.

You do understand there's not really a correlation between processor and graphics card temperatures right? You can't put an "intel stock cooler" on your graphics card. If it's a reference nvidia design it's going to run hotter than aftermarket cooled designs. However, 80 Celsius is fine, especially in a very demanding game like Witcher 3.

I am aware of that. I didn't know 80 Celsius was good enough though. I'm about to see how it runs on Skyrim.

Hi Guys. Sorry for reviving this thread, I am a new owner of an ASUS geforce GTX 980 Ti and my card is at 60°C almost all the time, I'm not even playing any games. I have a good tower, Cooler Master Cosmos SE and the air flow seems ok. Before I bought this card, I had 2 Geforce GTX 760 OC and none of them were hot @60°C even when playing games... Can I ask how hot is your 980 Ti card when you're not playing games pls? Thnx

Your card is likely this hot on idle because it turns off the fans until they are "needed"
As stated you should download MSI afterburner and see if the fan speed is set to 0 when you arent doing anything, that would explain it!

Yeah, I believe they all turn on once they get past 60-65 C
