How do i delete Linux?

I got a acer veriton N from a neighbor who thinks its broken. My son tried to remove linux but didnt suceed (he took out the hdd and fromatted it in his computer) but that only put veriton into resuce mode, any way i can get around that and install windows 8 on it?
The os was Fedora.

You should just be able to put in the install disc and boot from the dvd drive, it can format everything during the install

By formatting you have already "deleted" Linux.

Just pop in a windows CD/DVD/USB and install like normal

there is no cd reader and when i put the usb disk, it says no bootable partition detected.

Then you have not correctly made the windows installation USB...
