How do I disable desktop snap in Windows 8.1?

I have icons and other things at the top of my desktop (Windows 8.1). I routinely accidentally pull my whole desktop instead of moving the item I want to move. What is this feature called and how do I disable it?

I am not talking about snapping like Chrome to half the screen. I mean literally the entire desktop gets snapped if I pull from the top downward.

Yea, basically my entire desktop I can move to the right-half of monitor, left-half of the monitor, and it also can be placed all the way into the far left side-bar (not sure what Microsoft calls it basically the equivalent of the Charms bar to the right of the monitor).

I created an imgur of what I mean. As you can see, I can drag it to right, left, and far left. Once I snap it to one of those areas I can then drag the little black bar in the middle to make the desktop larger or smaller than 1/2 the screen.

yes that's windows built in effect just don't drag your desktop to cornors if mistakenly u do than drag it back or you can install 3rd party tool to disable it http://superuser.com/questions/505188/how-can-i-disable-the-drag-handle-on-the-desktop

I already have Start8 installed do you know if I can use this other software with it?

yeah - why does windows now force you to install 3rd party software to get rid of their gimmicky features in 8? Sorry, not much of an answer but i share your frustration. Windows, if you're reading, please make it possible to enable or disable features WITHIN the preloaded UI settings. (also like the transparent setting in bottom toolbar)

Interesting posts, I discovered this by accident today, and it seems it's to allow you to have a 'split screen' view of the desktop programs and an apps.program. Thanks for the information.
