I open jpg and tif files in photoshop. So both open with photoshop. I
cannot tell whether I am opening a jpg file or a tif file. How can I get the
file extentions to appear in windows?

In explorer select Tools, Folder Options. Go to the View tab and remove
the check next to "Hide extensions for known file types" in the list of

Learn how to spell extensions, type it in help, and review the topics (hint it's in the hidden files topic).
