How do I enable a PCI express slot on my motherboard?

I recently built my first PC, and the graphics card does not show up under display adapters in device manager. I tried installing the drivers for it but I only got an error saying the driver could not find compatible hardware.
After some research I found that I may have to enable the PCI express slot in my bios. However, I do not know where to look in my bios to enable that.

Mobo: MSI z97 Gaming 5

I have been trying to figure this out for a few days now and would really appreciate some help. Thanks!

Well that is not what it is supposed to be.

Did you input power source in your Graphics card? It seems that your graphics card cannot be detected or power problem or it is not properly mounted.

SLI means something about multiple graphics cards right? I'm only using one graphics card.
I think you mean "Board Explorer" or something? Looks kind of like this http://gyazo.com/fe6099d49d28cbbec9c58041e8a9a890
When I put my cursor over the PCI express slot where my graphics card is installed, it says "empty"

Thanks! There were 2 leads on the cable that plugs into the graphics card. I only had 1 lead plugged in because the other seemed too stiff to bend into the position to plug it in. Eventually I got them both connected. I was able to update the drivers successfully and it is showing up on board explorer. Hopefully no more problems. : )
