I am looking for a Monochrome Laser Printer that will work on a Dell 4300 desktop PC with Windows XP Pro SP3.
Can I buy a printer that will work on XP, or is it time to upgrade the entire system?

Thanks

I think it's time to update the system, for the following reasons:

1) Windows XP is not supported by Microsoft anymore
2) Incompatible with many modern applications
3) Cannot work with newer hardware

The OS is over 15 years old now, and if your system is running it, chances are you in for a much-needed upgrade.

look for old used models. Extremely unlikely anything brand new still supports XP.

Side note please upgrade that PC it is 100% out of date and a complete liability if its connected to the internet.

Yes, that's true, but it's for my elderly dad, and he is living on a fixed income. I don't have the cash to buy him a new system either, so we keep pushing the old Dell 4300 XP system. I did upgrade the processor from 1.6 to 2.6Ghz last month, but of course that won't help with the printer.
Perhaps I could repair the old HP Laserjet 1200? It seems to have difficulty picking up the paper from the main tray. I replaced the pickup roller once, but perhaps it just needs a really good cleaning. Also, we have been using the non-branded replacement toner cartridges. But I don't see how that would affect the paper path to cause pickup and jamming problems.

1. The old HP probably just needs a cleaning.
And off-brand toner carts could have an impact. That is part of the paper path

2. A Dell 4300 is a dinosaur. Any $300 box you can get from BestBuy will crush that. As well as lower electricity use!.

3. XP i long out of any security updates from MS. It really is time to let it go.

I have an old Dell printer that would absolutely work with that system, that I would give you for free. But you'd have to come pick it up. 65lbs is a bit much on the shipping cost
Dell 3100cn, color laser.
