how do I fix 12gb of ram but only 6.94gb usable
whrn I go into the bios in MIT it says
slot 1 2046mb slot 2 2046 slot 3 4046
slot 4 4046
enabled slot 1 - slot 2- slot 3 4046 slot 4 4046
total ram 8gb

Solution

Ok this will definitely cause you problems.

Your Corsair memory should be installed in the 1st slot and the 3rd slot (the 2 black ones).

Then if you want to test this install the 8gb crucial in the 2nd slot (the 1st grey one).

If that works, then try to put the 2 2gb memory into the 2 grey slots.

That should then work at 12gb, that said the 2gb memory is so slow I would not use it, also it may (probably will) cause errors.

Ok first off go into the BIOS and make sure iGPU or Integrated graphics is disabled, make sure graphics are set to PCIe (thats your GTX 680). Second after that in windows run "msconfig" click on Boot, then Advanced, and then make sure memory limit is unchecked.

After you do that let me know what it says.

Also please provide me with the exact brand and model of all of your memory.

Ok so 1gb more is good, So as of right now are you seeing about 8gb of RAM (7.94)?

If so can you shut down your PC, remove the 2 2GB ram sticks and leave in the 2 4GB and then start it back up and see what it does.

In addition when you remove that ram please provide me with the exact brand and model off the label on it.

OK heres the deal. That Micron ram you just removed, I looked it up. It is completely incompatible with the Corsair RAM you have, its 1066mhz ECC server ram. The reason you don't see all 12 gb is because that ram will not work with it. Sorry but you will need to leave it out.

Either way that Micron RAM will not work correctly with the Corsair RAM you have its completely different, not only that it is dragging your ram down to its lowest speed (the corsair is 1866mhz, the micron 1066, all your ram runs at the lowest clock speed).

Now as for the continual problem, Since you have cleared the BIOS issue, and you have checked msconfig, there is only one other thing that can cause this which is a common issue with AMD processors. That is that one or more of the pins on your CPU is bent. You will need to remove your CPU and carefully inspect it, and bend back any bent pins into shape. be VERY gentle with this, but they need to be exact.

Ok lets go back a second. I rea read your last post and I have some questions

The 8GB additional ram you added, first off whats the exact model number.

Second your board has 4 slots, which slots is your current ram installed in, and where did you put that new ram.

Just because you tried different ram doesn't mean that ram will work with the ram you have.

The fact that only your current ram is showing correctly at 8GB tells me this problem is with the additional ram you put in, or a bad ram slot on your motherboard.

Which combination said 6gb useable?

Try just your 2 Corsair memory sticks in slots 1 and 3, if that says 8gb then it works right and the other memory doesn't work right.

Also make 100% sure the memory is fully seated and locked in place.
