My memory usage sits at around 70-80% (roughly 12gb/16gb) before I have even begun to open any apps. I have run numerous virus scans with AVG which detect no malware. According to task manager, I have roughly 110 background processes and 45 Windows processes, all of which require fewer than 70MB of RAM (with 90% of them requiring less than 10MB). This is not an issue with my RAM modules, as I have just recently replaced my old 8gb module with an overkill 2x 8GB 3600mhz kit (currently running at 2667mhz, due to CPU limitations) in the hope of fixing this issue. Whilst providing a temporary fix and allowing my RAM to no longer sit at 98% usage, the issue has reemerged. Obviously, I've restarted my PC several times but the issue seems to persist. With time, however, the issue temporarily goes away, but it occurs far too regularly. I have also checked whether Windows (apps and OS) updates are affecting it and have used various programs to try to pinpoint the issue at hand. I have been experiencing this issue intermittently for a little over 2 months now. What could be sucking up all my available RAM?

what is usage like in safe mode?

  1. go to settings/update & security/recovery
  2. under advanced startup, click restart now button
  3. this restarts PC in a blue menu
  4. choose troubleshoot
  5. choose advanced
  6. choose startup options
  7. click the restart button
  8. choose a safe mode (it doesn't matter which) by using number associated with it.
  9. Pc will restart and load safe mode
could be a memory leak if it slowly increases over time and is fixed by a restart.
normally caused by drivers.

what programs did you use?
have you used the MSI Center app to check drivers on PC? its here under utilities - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B460M-PRO-VDH-WIFI#down-driver&Win10 64

giving a memory leak more ram is just a temporary fix, it puts it off longer but the way they work, you can run out of memory and still have spare ram.

16gb isn't overkill, over 16gb is though... depends on what games you play, some will eat as much as you give them.

Can you download and run Driverview - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

All it does is looks at drivers installed; it won't install any (this is intentional as 3rd party driver updaters often get it wrong)

When you run it, go into view tab and set it to hide all Microsoft drivers, will make list shorter.

Now its up to you, you can look through the drivers and try to find old drivers, or you can take a screenshot from (and including)Driver name to (and including)Creation date.

upload it to an image sharing website and show link here
