How do I get 10Gb ethernet? ISP only provides 1Gb.

Hello, I was looking on my ISP's website (verizon) and the fastest internet that they offer is 940 Mbps. Seeing all the new hype about 10Gb networking, I just don't see the point. If all I can even buy is 1Gb, why should I care about getting 10Gb ethernet? Is there something I don't understand? Thx in advance.

The above comment about bragging rights is likely the most common reason it is currently done by home users. You see this question all the time and then you ask what type of disk system they are using and they pretty much go....uuh disk system ?. Those that actually need a 10g network between their machine already clearly understand that they have to have powerful computer and disk arrays.

In addition when you talk internet connections the next most common post we see is people complaining that they can not get their 1gbit internet to down load at 1gbit event though speedtest sys they get 1gbit. They forget that the company that they are downloading from may not have enough bandwidth. So even if you could somehow get a 10gbit...
You get 10Gbps Ethernet by buying expensive switches/routing equipment. 10Gbps as already mention is for NETWORKS and will be used on the backend between servers and storage devices and not for internet, why on earth would you want 10Gbps internet, most large companies don't even have 1Gbps internet breakout.

So even if you could somehow get a 10gbit internet connection you may not be able to use it because the sites you download from have some limitation...many times artificial to prevent people with large connection from overloading their connection.
