As I said how do I get 144Hz on BenQ Zowie XL2411 with a 1080 Ti FE as it doesn't have dvi and I heard you need dvi to get the 144Hz?

Also do you know any other budget monitors that will do 144Hz through HDMI instead?

it depends on what resolution you are trying to use with this refresh rate. if you are gaming at 1080P then you can use DVI/DVI-D, if you are trying to run 4K at that resolution you will need to use the display port connection.

Are either still within their return window? If so I would replace the monitor for one with DisplayPort or the GPU for one with DVI (Dual Link).

If not. The best you will get is an "Active" DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter. The only one with decent customer reviews run around $100. Those cheap adapters DisplayPort to DVI adapters only do 60hz.

Note: The reviews for the various models are grouped together. Just get the DVI (Dual) model not the cheaper ones you see. Some reviewers note problems with 144hz. I don't know if it is a problem with the adapter. Or if the Amazon's grouping the other adapters under the same reviews. Mislead people to think the cheaper adapters would work at 144hz.

This adapter is actually rated for 120hz at 1920x1080. Reviews report 144hz works. I know of no true 144hz rated adapter.

Frankly, if the monitor can't be returned. I'd sell it. Then combine the money with the cost of the adapter. Instead get a proper DisplayPort compatible 144hz monitor.

I think I can return my 1080 Ti FE and could get the asus version which I believe has the dvi link I need and then I could get the 144Hz through the dvi.

It's really annoying. Learnt my lesson though, research before you buy, saves the hassle.

With current GPU inventory and pricing due to cryptomining. Hopefully, you can find one at a price which is not insane.

Also be sure that you use a Dual-Link DVI cable. Also get it in DVI-D not DVI-I. DVI-D will plug into a DVI-I port fine not vice versa.
