Supposed to have 100/1000 nic, but acts like 10/100. CMOS disable it, install gig nic in PCIE slot, but sys. only sees it as mobo nic & won't let it act like a gig nic.

What is telling you "10/100" ?
Ether. Status window shows 100.0 Mbps. On laptop with working gig nic, it shows Gbps. Asus says it is supposed to come with a gig nic. So why isn't it acting like it. And why won't it allow an off the shelf nic, installed in the PCIE slot run like a gig nic? That's my puzzle.

Yes, to all of the questions. Tried cable swap, flashed bios, asus nic drivers, now currently plugged into store bought nic, that's supposed to be a gig, but something makes it act like a 10/100. Looks like this mobo went through the walmart qualification modifications for selling by having the manufacturer short sheet the mobo. I've seen mobos with 5 of six sata slots removed to sell at walmart, so this might have been the case here.
