How do I get internet?

So my friends just recently moved into a new apartment. They do not have cable (and I don't think they plan on getting it) but they need wifi. What would the best path and items be and what would a price estimate be? Btw the most common isp in the area is Verizon. They have a few wireless devices and will use an Apple TV. Please let me know. Thanks

Verizon DSL is reasonably good and is much cheaper than Verizon wireless. You can look at DSLReports for details on both by area.

They are better off buying their own gateway device than renting if they have a choice, as you usually pay for the purchase price in about 10-12 months of rental fees.
