Question How do I get my audio back after going from HDMI monitor to DVI monitor?

Using twin Asus VG248QE monitors. I had a 3rd display (not gaming monitor) but was using the HDMI on it, and had audio jack connected to monitor to gain audio. I just sold that 3rd monitor and went back to DVI, and now I can't get audio back. I've looked at forums, updated drivers, used Windows troubleshooting... all without any luck. I feel like this isn't a unique situation. The same thing happened to my laptop 3 months ago; thought I blew my speakers, now I know otherwise since that was hooked to the same HDMI display (I was using it with laptop, then moved it to my desktop...and every time, I've lost audio without any way to get it back). SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP ME

My Desktop specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930k CPU @ 3.20 GHz
52 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

HDMI passes audio.
DVI does not.

You need to connect some speakers to the audio OUT on the laptop.
