How do i get my playstation 2 slim to play its game?

Hello, i put my game(kingdom hearts 2) into my playstation 2 slim and i don't know how to get it to play the game i closed the lid and turned it on, but it keeps taking me to the main menu can anybody help?

Does it have any scratches or smudges on the disc?

how long has it been since you used the playstation? is it new? how much prior have you used the console? is the game in good condition? is the region of the game matching the region of the conosle (NTSC or PAL or NTSC-J)?

if everything matches and the console is older it could be that the laser is dead, which can be replaced and a cheap fix if you are ok with taking the console apart yourself.

If the disc isn't scratched or smudged, then try another disc if you have one then if that don't work then you're laser is more than likely dead, PS2 are cheap on ebay now anyway.
