I had installed RedHat 9.0 on and old Compaq box, but it wasn't being used and it was so slow it was nearly useless anyway. So I wanted to put 98SE back on the machine and use it for file storage, but I can't get Windows to install correctly. It just says "GRUB" (Grand Unified Bootloader, right?) in the upper left corner and the system hangs. How do I remove all traces of Linux and Grub?

Also I have to use Compaq's POS proprietary System Restore disk set, I can't just install off of a regular Windows disk. I'm about to chuck the [-peep-] thing out the window 😡 .

Boot off a win98 floppy and run fdisk /mbr. See if that fixes things.

Is your system stable enough you'd run your own life support on it? ---mine is. Soyo KT333 + AXP 1900+

Thank you gentlemen, I think it's working. Now instead of GRUB it just says "invalid system disk" 😎 . That I can deal with. I'll let you know how it turns out.
