Help! I was trying to download a file off the internet earlier and I came across a virus that installed many programs onto my computer at once. As I was uninstalling them I noticed I could no longer access the Internet. So I did what I usually do and went through the LAN process in internet explorer and even that did not work. So I tried to use system restore and system recovery but apparently the virus has taken over the administration rights and will not let me do anything that will remove it. I have also tried to install anti-virus software onto my laptop via my android tablet but the laptop refuses to acknowledge the connection to the tablet. I honestly do not know what to do can anyone give me any advice or help please?

Hi

Without knowing what malware you have been infected with the above advice may or may not work

What anti virus software were you using to protect your PC?
You need a internet security package (of AV, Firewall and anti malware software ) or seperate packages all running in real time)

In UK most banks provide free subscription to major AV vendors if you have online banking

If you can not dis-infect your PC consider data recovery by booting from Hirens Boot CD
and taking option for Mini XP and copy data off to USB hard drive or over lan or to USB memory.

Then use Windows DVD, or recovery DVD or recovery partition to get back to as delivered state.
Then install proper Internet security software
Then spend a long time downloading...
Try boot into safe mode.

From there
1. Press Windows Key + R
2. type: msconfig
3. Press enter
4. Go to Startup
5. Disable everything.

Then boot normally and try get antivirus. I would recommend Avast, and Malwarebytes. (you need both not one or the other).

If you can get into your computer removing startup applications, try this.
In the startup tab, look through all the programs. Look for something fishy, like chinese writing, or xxx, something that you're sure you didn't install, find it's path. It'll look something like

C://Users/Downloads

Or C://ProgramFiles(x86)/...

Then open that file location, and delete it yourself. You can do this without internet.
You can even do this in safe mode

I followed what you said both about thw startup and lookong for something suspicious. I found something suspicious but the "Open File Location" option was greyed out. I found another object whuch was suspicious but it was connected to rundll32, which furthers my belief that it has gone into my hardware. I've dealt with minor viruses in the psdt and none have given me this much trouble.

Note there are other forums & websites specialising in dealing with Virus infection

Kaspersky and other anti virus vendors have bootable rescue CD images which can clean up virus infections as none of the malware programs are running when booted off the CD

best of luck

Hmm, well you'd have to manually find the path. But the damage it's done, as you said, could be irreversible.

The most painless way to go about it is to take your laptop to an IT store. Get them to recover the data off of your HDD. (Or what they can recover off of it.)
And just run a clean format.
