how do i get windows 8 to detect my graphics card

i have a radeon 7970 and windows 8 wont detect it

On new windows install you have to install intel chipset drivers then reboot.
On reboot the intel chipset will have all the drivers needed to see your new gpu. It show up and standard VGA intill you install the amd gpu drivers.
If you installed the chipset drivers in the bios you have to switch the primary video from the ipgpu to peg-pci and move the video cable to the gpu. If your on the ipgpu the gpu card won't turn on. On new systems unless muilt monitor is set to enabled.
