how do i install a new graphics card?

after finnally building up the courage (thanks to the people of toms hardware) i have finally decided to put my money on the gtx 750 ti. i have intel inspiron i3847-5386BK desktop

my question now is this.... how do i installl it.
all the tutorials i have found just show how to physically install it, which isn't my problem. i have heard talk of installing x driver at x time, uninstalling x, and disabling x.

can someone please walk me through all the steps to putting in my first card? thank you so much.

Do you have a graphics card currently installed on your system? Otherwise, after the new card is physically installed inside the case, just insert the CD it comes with and install the drivers/software just like anything else. The software will auto check for the most updated drivers.

Basically if you follow the steps provided on the installation CD you are good to go.

Put your graphics card in. When computer comes on go to device manager and look for the graphics card. click scan for hardware changes.. Your computer will do the rest and update to new drivers and uninstall the old ones. Make sure you have internet connection

Not to insult this post, but PLEASE don't do that! It will search for Windows Drivers for the device (generic drivers) not the driver set for the card. Use the CD to install the software it comes with. GeForce Experience is the software provided and it does a great job of installing the latest drivers for your system automatically.

Im suggesting if you do not have the cd of course use the cd if you have it.. Im sorry but it will automatically download new nvidia geforce software. I just did this to my pc.. once you download the geforce experience just update the driver to the latest one or just click update to make sure it is the latest driver... after the geforce experience is downloaded..

i am currently running off the integrated graphics, so i do not have a graphics card. thanks for the answer, but are you sure there is nothing i have to uninstall or change before putting in the graphics card? like i thought there was stuff that prevents new hardware from working in windows 8.1.

No, you dont need to uninstall anything. Your motherboard will recognize the graphics card.. Make sure you put hdmi or dvi or dpi from graphics card to monitor. Just dont connect your monitor to your motherboard (Your integrated graphics card).. if you know what i mean.

this sight says that i first need to uninstall the intel graphics drivers before i install it.

It should automatically start looking for drivers if you are connected to the internet once you turn on the computer with new graphics card in the computer.. if you run into any issues follow below

Install the graphics card into your motherboard pci-e. Start your pc -> goto device manager -> If you see integrated graphics card (intel) then right click uninstall. Click on your nvidia graphics card and do scan for hardware changes - it should automatically download drivers and download geforce experience. update the driver.

I am not sure why you are having such problems.. have you even try to do what i told you to do? Go do that first and come back if you run in to any issues.
