how do I install a program with just the binaries?

I have a shared system. One of the users of this system wants a certain software program but I cannot install it via exe or msi because that is going to interfere with another person's installation of another program. was reading up and somebody told me to just download the binaries as a zip, unzip them in this persons users folder and have her set her user environment variables to the appropriate settings. Will this work?

That all depends on the program. Some are made to allow for that (MPC-HC, Blender, etc) but many will fail without a proper install.

Can you tell us exact the apps that are involved?
