How do I install Win 7 or 8.1 Pro to SSD from the DVD?

Buying either Win 7 Pro or 8.1 Pro, with the installation disk and key all legal like, to install in my new build via optical drive [old school here]

It's going on an SSD right out of the box, hopefully.

My question is: after enabling AHCI I guess, can I do the install straight from the DVD to the SSD?

I'm seeing all this and that about using a usb drive and iso's, but I gather that's for ppl who don't have the installation disks?

Any tips and pointers VERY much appreciated too! Thanks!

After setting AHCI, make sure to set the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive and you'll be on your way.

OK - So set Sata to AHCI, do the boot order to DVD and this sounds too easy, lol. I was hoping it was a bit more straight forward than all that USB drive business 😉

Any thoughts on MBR vs GPT?

For Windows 7 I don't think there's a difference between MBR and GPT.

For Windows 8/8.1 maybe just go GPT because it's becoming the new standard.
